Personal Statement It was a humid spring morning in Louisiana. I remember holding on to the ladder for my friend and tried to avoid the reflection of the sun from the shiny vinyl words â€Å"Habitat for Humanity† on her shirt. Before I could wipe the sweat drop off my forehead, I heard someone yell, â€Å"Watch out!† As I woke up, the dimmed white lights flickered in a rhythmic pace. Everyone seemed to be moving in a speed of light and I was the only one at a stand still. I heard a baby crying endlessly for her mom and as I glanced over to my left, I saw a nurse huddled up with a family. Even in this chaos, I somehow felt comfortable and safe, knowing that this many people were working to save lives and to treat injuries and illnesses. Then, a doctor had told me that a hammer was dropped on my head and caused a minor concussion. I have never felt more appreciative to be alive as if given a second chance in life. After realizing that my life could have easily been altered within minutes, I had a full understanding that life is an undefined process with limited time and it all depends on what one makes of it. I flashed back to this realization when my dad had called in an impassive voice to tell me that my grandfather was admitted to the hospital and in that instant; I knew that a difficult obstacle was ahead. My grandfather was the sole reason that our family moved to America in 1998 and never thanked him for giving me the life that I never expected.
